Dropout rates continue to rise in many of our communities across the
country. During the 2006-2007 school year in Massachusetts, Public
High Schools experienced a 3.8% dropout rate. However, many
communities within Massachusetts were struggling with much higher truancy
and dropout out rates. Boston, Brockton, Fall River, Holyoke, Lawrence, New
Bedford, and Springfield all had dropout rates above the statewide
average. A few of those community experienced double digit dropout rates.
